Pomila Singh named Edna Seinsheimer Levin Professor in Cancer Studies |

Pomila Singh, Ph.D. was named Edna Seinsheimer Levin Professorship in Cancer Studies. Dr. Singh, professor in anatomy and neuroscience and human biological chemistry and genetics, will hold this Levin professorship for three years. She is the second person to be appointed to this professorship since the Levin family established. the endowed position in 1998. William C. Levin, M.D., President Emeritus of UTMB, and his children, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hornstein (Gerry Levin) and Mr. and Mrs. Armin Cantini (Lynn Levin) wished to stimulate research in cancer and to honor their wife and mother, Edna Seinsheimer Levin, after her lengthy and courageous fight with cancer. The award rotates every three years to each of the four UTMB schools. Dr. Singh, a member of the GSBS faculty, was the unanimous choice of the Graduate School's selection committee. The committee recognized her strong credentials and career-long involvement in cancer research. Dr. Singh's laboratory conducts research in the area of hormones and growth factors as it relates to cancer and has published more than 105 peer-reviewed papers in the field. |
