Golda A. Kevetter-Leonard received her B.S. in biology and chemistry from Texas Woman's University (Denton, Texas) and her Ph.D. in neurosience from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Mich.).  She continued her training as a postdoctoral fellow at Case Western Reserve University from 1978-1980, and also at UTMB from 1980-1982, after which she joined the UTMB faculty in the Department of Otolaryngology and Neuroscience and Cell Biology.

Dr. Leonard has worked tirelessly to enrich the educational experience of graduate students at UTMB.  She has served on numerous committees including the Committee in Support of Science Education, the GSBS Executive Committee, and the Basic Biomedical Sciences Curriculum Steering Committee.  In addition, she has generously provided leadership and support as the chair of the Recruitment Committee and is the current co-chair of the Summer Undergraduate Research Program--bolstering these programs that bring top graduate students to UTMB.  Dr. Leonard also serves as the Director of the Cell Biology Graduate Program, and she has served on dissertation and examination committees for 13 students extending across seven graduate programs.  The GSO selected Dr. Leonard for the Faculty Award for Student Advocacy in 2002.

In addition to the extraordinary passion and vision that she provides on the UTMB campus, Dr. Leonard has demonstrated tremendous commitment to the Galveston scientific community by way of her service to the Galveston Academic Science Booster Club.  Dr. Leonard frequently opens her home to GSBS students and faculty, eager to host UTMB social events, and willing to give of her personal time in order to provide candid and professional advice.  Her positive attitude is contagious and her leadership is inspirational.  Without question, Dr. Leonard faithfully and continually represents the interests of past, present and future students at UTMB.
